1. First, Identify the Source of the Problem

- Wet production areas — continuous water contact from washing or processing operations.
- Basements & underground rooms — groundwater pressure from outside (negative pressure) pushing into the structure.
- Ground tanks & pools — large-volume, continuous water contact from the inside (positive pressure).
2. Choose a System That Matches the Area's Characteristics
Polyurethane membranes are well suited to roof decks and open areas because of their elastic properties — able to follow structural movement from temperature changes without cracking, and applied as a liquid so the result is seamless with no joints prone to leaking.
Polymer cement coating (mortar waterproofing) is better suited to structures in direct contact with water such as ground tanks, pools, and basements, since it can resist water pressure from both the positive and negative side.
Integral waterproofing additives are a solution mixed directly into mortar/plaster, suited as an extra layer in wet production areas, especially during new plastering work.
Multi-purpose sealants are useful for quick repairs on small leak points or areas that a full waterproofing system can't easily reach, such as gutter or pipe joints — but they're not a substitute for a comprehensive waterproofing system on larger areas.
3. Don't Overlook Surface Preparation
No matter how good the product used, waterproofing results depend heavily on surface preparation before application — cleaning, crack repair, and making sure the surface is in the right condition. This is one reason why application by an experienced team delivers far better durability than sloppy work.
4. Use Genuine Products & an Experienced Applicator
Counterfeit or mixed waterproofing products often fail much faster than expected. Using genuine products from a trusted manufacturer like Sika, combined with application that meets technical standards, is a far more cost-effective investment in the long run than having to redo waterproofing work every year.
